Advice and support for Syleham residents
As part of its Emergency Planning, Syleham Parish Council has put together useful information for residents on what to do when faced with adverse weather including flooding, high winds and snow. This information can be found below.
In all cases where there is a risk to life, call the Emergency Services on 999.
FLOODING
River Waveney: The River Waveney is prone to flooding particularly along Hoxne Road and at Syleham Bridge. When the bridge is flooded a warning ‘Flood’ sign is put in place by residents. It is strongly advised not to cross the bridge at this time as the current flows strongly over the road at the Brockdish side of the bridge. Syleham Parish Council has asked Brockdish Parish Council to erect a flood water depth sign which can be viewed when driving from Syleham to Brockdish.
The Environment Agency is responsible for flood management on the River Waveney and provides advice on what to do before, and during flooding, how to report flooding, and what your risk of flooding is. Residents can also sign up for flood warnings. You can find more information by clicking on the following link:

Flooding from field run-off: There is also a risk of flooding following periods of heavy rain from field run-off. Residents are encouraged to ensure that their ditches are well maintained and drainage pipes are large enough to cope.
